More and more women entrepreneurs are joining the group of beneficiaries of the Galápagos Conservancy Awards for Conservation Actions, this time we financed the implementation of the book store of citizen Alice Barlett, a resident of Santa Cruz Island.

Her project aims to make a space available to the island community to promote a culture of self-learning and reading, which helps children, young people, and adults in general detach from electronic devices.

The store has a wide variety of books about Galápagos, with illustrations, drawings and photographs that make learning easier and more attractive. Barlett, a lover of good reading, said that the support of the Galápagos Conservancy has been essential to make his venture a reality, “the response from the community has been very positive, especially children and adolescents enjoy these books, and their parents are pleased that there is finally good reading available on the islands”, he emphasized.

This project goes hand in hand with the strengthening of the Santa Cruz Public Library, Galápagos Conservancy signed an agreement with Sandie Salazar, a member of the Association of Naturalist Guides AGIPA, whose initiative focuses on strengthening the administration of this library, which is attended by local boys and girls every day and receive professional support in their learning.

We are convinced that environmental education is the fundamental basis for achieving the objectives of sustainable development and for the conservation of natural resources, this education is the most effective when it comes to raising awareness among the population about current and future environmental needs.

In this sense, the educational projects financed by the Galápagos Conservancy contribute to sustainable development in the Galápagos Islands, publicizing the incredible benefits of promoting in children a culture of reading and learning about the importance of caring for our environment.
