The Galápagos Islands hold a special place in the hearts of many as a natural wonderland unlike any other. This February, Galápagos commemorates two important historical events: the 191st anniversary of its annexation to Ecuadorian territory and the 50th anniversary of the provincialization and cantonization of the Santa Cruz and San Cristobal islands.

From its first days as part of Ecuador, Galápagos has remained a unique destination, with flora and fauna that are not found anywhere else in the world. This is why Galápagos Conservancy, and its partner, Conservando Galápagos, are deeply committed to preserving this natural wonder for present and future generations.

As we celebrate these important anniversaries, we want to express our gratitude to the Galápagos community for their tireless work in protecting and preserving the Archipelago. Through our efforts, we strive to support local initiatives that not only help preserve the ecosystems, but also improve the well-being of the local community.

The provincialization and cantonization festivities are a testament to the rich history of Galápagos and its people. It is a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future, to reaffirm our commitment to continue working tirelessly for Galápagos and its people.

As we celebrate these important milestones, we invite everyone to join us in preserving this unique paradise. Together, we can ensure that Galápagos remains a natural treasure for generations to come. Congratulations to Galápagos on this special occasion, and here’s to many more years of preservation and protection!
