This month, we honor the more than 470 teachers who tirelessly work to educate over 7,000 students across the four inhabited islands of Galápagos. Their dedication and commitment go beyond imparting knowledge — they are guides and mentors actively shaping the holistic development of future generations.

Through their daily work as teachers, they not only transmit academic content but also instill values, social skills, and environmental awareness.  These attributes are essential for fostering citizenship committed to the conservation and protection of Galápagos’ unique natural environment. These educators play a crucial role in promoting a sustainable future for the archipelago, and, dare we say, for Ecuador and beyond.

According to our education expert, at Galápagos Conservancy, Jenny Macías, we are deeply committed to improving education, especially that which emphasizes the importance of sustainability in our community. “These teachers’ influence in directly connecting with students greatly contributes to raising environmental awareness and fosters a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the Galápagos Islands,” she emphasized.

During a recent event held across the four inhabited islands that convened teachers and students to play traditional games, the Galápagos Education District, the National Union of Educators, and Galápagos Conservancy publicly recognized teachers’ careers and their contributions to development in the province.

We deeply value their willingness to share their knowledge and experiences with students, as well as their passion and ability to inspire and motivate future generations. We are committed to continuing to support educational improvement, working closely with teachers to build a sustainable future for the archipelago. Together, we can build a brighter tomorrow for Galápagos.
