Galápagos Vacation Camp is Turning Kids into Environmentalists

Learning to care for the environment and protect our world should start from a young age, which is why Galápagos Conservancy supports local initiatives that teach children about the importance of recycling, saving energy, and caring for nature.
Last week, Galápagos Conservancy participated in the kickoff of “Parqueritos en Acción,” a monthlong camp during school break that benefits 50 children ages 8 to 11 from Santa Cruz Island. The children will enrich their knowledge about their environment through fun activities, field trips, and special talks.
Galápagos Conservancy is proud to support this initiative led by the Galápagos National Park Directorate (GNPD), which promotes a love and respect for nature in the community. This year marks the 25th edition of the camp, where Galápagos children learn about the biodiversity of the Islands and how to care for the environment in a fun way.
The Director of Operations of Galápagos Conservancy and its partner Conservando Galápagos, Gabriela Vivas, said: “Investing in education is investing in the future, and children learn from their experiences. That is why the work of the GNPD’s environmental education experts, who are forging a new generation of ecosystem guardians of the wonderful Galápagos Islands, is admirable.”
50 niños aprenden a cuidar su entorno de forma divertida en sus vacaciones
Cuidar el ambiente y proteger el mundo en el que vivimos es algo que debemos aprender desde pequeños, por eso Galápagos Conservancy apoya las iniciativas locales que imparten conocimientos y aprendizajes en los niños sobre la importancia de reciclar, de ahorrar energía y de cuidar la naturaleza.
La semana pasada participamos en la inauguración del Campamento Vacacional “Parqueritos en Acción” que beneficia a 50 niños de 8 a 11 años de la isla Santa Cruz, y que a través de actividades lúdicas, salidas de campo y charlas experienciales los niños enriquecerán sus conocimientos sobre su entorno.
Galápagos Conservancy se enorgullece de apoyar esta iniciativa, liderada por la Dirección del Parque Nacional Galápagos (DPNG), que por 25 años ha promovido e inculcado en la comunidad amor y respeto por la naturaleza, impartiendo conocimientos sobre la biodiversidad de las islas y brindando a los niños de Galápagos la oportunidad de aprender a cuidar el ambiente de forma divertida.
La Directora de Operaciones de Galápagos Conservancy y su filial Conservando Galápagos, Gabriela Vivas, dijo que “invertir en educación es invertir en el futuro y definitivamente los niños aprenden de las experiencias vividas, por esto, es admirable el trabajo que realizan los expertos en educación ambiental de la DPNG quienes están forjando una nueva generación de guardianes de los ecosistemas de las maravillosas islas Galápagos”.
