The staff of Galapagos Conservancy sends its condolences to the family of Lester E. Harris, Jr., a long-time friend of Galapagos, who passed away on February 1, 2012, at the age of 89.
After working as an Army Medic in the South Pacific in World War II, his love of nature led him to a career as a biology professor with a focus on herpetology. For many years he took groups of students from Loma Linda University in California to Galapagos for a field class. His passion for Galapagos and for teaching inspired hundreds of students, and it was our pleasure to get to know Lester over the years.
Our thoughts are with his family.
