Trouble in the Offices of INGALA in Galapagos
Yesterday morning, Ingala staff (Instituto Nacional Galápagos) in San Cristóbal, would not let their boss, Carlos Carrión, into the offices.
The employees asked Carrión to resign and accused him of not appreciating the value of local professionals. One staff member, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that paying attention to the public is normal.
Carrión, on the other hand, emphasized that these acts were a result of their resistance to reforms in Ingala. “There are more staff in administration than in planning, which means that Ingala cannot fulfil its new tasks.”
He added that under his management there had been two audits, one by Control and the other with the support of a staff member from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The first one had brought to light irregularities among the Ingala staff. For example, various island residents worked twenty-two days in the islands and then had eight days rest in the mainland. Furthermore, one staff member had a false academic certificate.
We were unable to reach Fredy Mora, president of the staff association to get his version as he was meeting the police in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Everyone is working normally in the other islands
