Charles Darwin Foundation, Inc. Announces Name Change to Galapagos Conservancy
January 1, 2006
Falls Church, VA
The Falls Church-based Charles Darwin Foundation, Inc. (CDF, Inc.) is pleased to reintroduce the organization as Galapagos Conservancy. With more than twenty years of success as the largest private funder of Galapagos conservation, CDF, Inc. is changing its name to better signal its mission and its program direction for the future. Galapagos Conservancy will continue to focus its efforts on funding its key conservation partners in Ecuador, which are the Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galapagos Islands and the Galapagos National Park. “Having a name which establishes our commonality of purpose will benefit both of our organizations,” says Johannah Barry, President of Galapagos Conservancy.
This decision reflects the recommendations of Board of Directors and staff, as well as extensive consultation with colleagues and conservation partners in the Galapagos and world-wide. Galapagos Conservancy will continue to focus its program efforts towards promoting conservation, education, and scientific research in and on behalf of the Galapagos Islands. The name, Galapagos Conservancy, reinforces a commitment to the conservation of marine and terrestrial biodiversity in Galapagos as a guiding management principal. “Galapagos is our focus and the goal of our efforts over these many years has been to conserve and protect this extraordinary place,” says Ms. Barry.
The Galapagos Conservancy based in Falls Church, Virginia, ensures the conservation of biological diversity in Galapagos by supporting the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Galapagos National Park Service. Galapagos Conservancy forms part of the Friends of Galapagos (FOGO) Network, with member organizations in London, Frankfurt, Zurich, The Netherlands, Helsinki, and Spain. The FOGO network is committed to uniting international efforts to address the most urgent financial and program needs of Galapagos and its key institutions.
