"Why does Galapagos matter?"
Dr. Graham Watkins, biologist and conservationist
The magnificent sea life and terrestrial flora and fauna of the Galápagos Islands have inspired a wealth of scientific observations, beginning with those of Charles Darwin. Today, the archipelago faces an array of challenges, mostly related to the growing human population on its four inhabited islands.

Dr. Graham Watkins, Executive Director of the Charles Darwin Foundation in Ecuador, contends that Galápagos can still be a model for other remote and fragile ecosystems. He describes the groundbreaking conservation work taking place at Galápagos and how it offers the best hope for achieving balance between humans and the natural world.

"DARWIN:" An Exhibit about Famed Naturalist, Charles Darwin
The Field Museum
Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution is central to science and is the foundation for all modern biology. This exhibition presents the evidence that led Darwin to realize that all life on Earth evolves, over millions of years, from common ancestors. Darwin's notes, along with original fossils and specimens collected during his historic voyage on the Beagle, show how Darwin carefully developed and refined his theories about the evolution of species. The exhibition explores the impact of Darwin's work in science and society during his time and today.
Family photographs and letters reveal personal details about Darwin's life, including his role as husband and father. Notebooks, sketches, manuscripts, and other rare personal effects demonstrate the unceasing curiosity and meticulous nature of this scientific genius. The exhibition features hands-on interactives, interviews with contemporary scientists, and live animals, including Galapagos tortoises, frogs, and iguanas.
