The Toyota International Teacher Program

Since 2006, the Toyota International Teacher Program and the Institute of International Education have brought teachers from the U.S. and Galapagos together to share best teaching practices and to work in interdisciplinary groups on environmentally-focused lesson plans. In November 2008, the third group of U.S. educators will travel to Galapagos. The following high school lesson plans were developed in conjunction with this program.

The Adventures of Kaluwara the Koala in the Galapagos Islands
Written by Allison Chase Sutherland with illustrations by Sun Woo Jeong

Kaluwara the Koala embarks on an adventure of discovery from the eucalyptus forests of Australia to encounter the endangered species of the Galapagos Islands before it’s too late, and to teach the children of the Earth how to protect them. Included with the story is a letter from Kaluwara to the children of the Earth, a list of tips to help children protect the environment, and a glossary of English, Spanish, and science terminology.
